Atlético can beat Betis with their unbeaten record

Atlético is setting several records at the start of the season. It is the only undefeated team, it is the top scorer (eight targets, the same as Barcelona) and the least thrashed (Only conceded one goal in four games, matching the start of the 2016-17 campaign). All this is causing great optimism in the fans, who see that their team is improving and that the other competitors are not well (this day they lost Real Madrid, Barcelona and Seville), it may be the year in which the colchoneros fight to the end for the title.

Simeone's men are proving to be a solid team that has a hard time generating scoring chances (except on Granada day) but which is hard to score. That makes it possible to score in almost every game. In fact, with Saturday's victory against Celta in Balaídos (0-2), the rojiblancos equaled the entity's record for undefeated matches in the League (20 matches), which dates from the end of the 2016-17 season and the beginning of the next. Specifically, it encompasses from matchday 35 (win 0-5 against Las Palmas) to matchday 16 of the 2017-18 campaign (win 1-0 against Alavés). Espanyol truncated a week after the record winning 1-0. In total, the mattresses they won 13 games and drew seven.

In the current streak, which It started on matchday 23 of the last LaLiga (victory against Granada 1-0), the colchoneros add 11 wins and nine tied. Until now They have not lost since February 1, 2020 (1-0 against Real Madrid), so they are already 261 days without knowing defeat. This Saturday they host Betis at the Wanda Metropolitano at 9:00 p.m. and, if they manage to score, they will beat the current record, leaving open the possibility of improving it in the coming days.

However, there are two records that are still far away for the rojiblancos. They are that of consecutive victories (nine) and consecutive games without losing in the same league (18). First they did it with Simeone in the 2013-14 season and it ran from March 8 to April 27, 2014. The second shared by Atlético for the 2018-19 season, also directed by Cholo, and the one from 1990-91, coached by the late Tomislav Ivic. With the Argentine coach, the colchoneros achieved 11 wins and seven draws (between matchdays 4 and 21) before Betis defeated them 1-0 at Benito Villamarín. For their part, with the Croatian on the bench, they achieved 12 wins and six draws between matchdays 13 and 30 and it was Mallorca that broke the streak, by winning 0-1 at Vicente Calderón.
