Atlético adds drones to its training methodology

The technical body of
Atlético de Madrid
He is always in search of new methodologies and technology that allow him to improve his work, in training and in the games themselves.

The mattress club has been added among the teams that have added drones to their way of working in training. In the last session prior to the clash against him Numantia, the first friendly of the preseason for the rojiblancos, could already be seen in the Cerro del Espino how a member of Atlético's analysis department recorded the session developed through a drone several tens of meters above the ground.

And it is that it is increasingly common for coaches to take advantage of this technology to collect images that are later analyzed through specific software from which a good number of data is obtained.

A complement to the 'gps' that some players carry, to the images that are recorded at the foot of the field or those that are also taken from above, from cranes or scaffolding. In fact, this type of data collection at height has been common for several seasons in the case of Athletic. All sessions are recorded from height to analyze movements, displacements, situations, etc.

All this comes together and provides tactical, technical and physical data that is provided to the coaching staff for decision making. In the end it is one more leg in the ‘big data’ that clubs use more and more often.

EVERY TIME MORE COMMON

Why do it from a specific drone? There is no better angle from which to observe movement, positioning and space than when viewed from above. In addition, it allows the accompaniment of exercises in movement, something that is not so simple from the ground.

Since in 2017 the Charlton athletic include it in your daily work, many clubs have joined this trend. A few days ago, in Italy he was surprised that Jose Mourinho, new coach of the Rome, get rid of this resource. But the truth is that for a coach like him, who knows English football, it was almost a logical step because in the British islands many teams use it. Guardiola in the Manchester City; or Roberto Martinez in his time of Everton… In our country it is also increasingly common, Valladolid, Leganés, Rayo, Valencia, Barça, Real Madrid, etc already had some experiences with it although not all incorporated it. We will see if in the case of Athletic has come to stay.

In our country there are several dozen companies of this technology focused on the sports field, within the several hundred that exist for an infinite number of issues. In the United States, in sports like American Football it is already common.
