Athletic plays its game for the Basque

Athletic has joined Euskaraldia for another year and, with two weeks to go before the initiative begins, it has presented a special video with a line-up in favor of the Basque language made up of club workers.

The audiovisual piece represents moments prior to a match for Basque and Euskaraldia that will be played in San Mamés, in a montage made thanks to images recorded in previous seasons.

Athletic wanted to represent “the social exercise of Euskaraldia as a party in favor of the Basque language, since the challenge in favor of the Basque language is a match to be won by all, as has always happened in La Catedral”.

Before the video commentator presented the rojiblanco eleven, he took the floor the captain of the team he has formed for this special event, José Ángel Iribar ‘El Txopo’. His message is that “this time, as in all matches, you always have to go out onto the pitch with great courage. To win this game we have to speak more Basque, more and more times, with love. Basque needs us, both speakers and non-speakers. For the Basque language, all together ”.

Together with Gaizka Garitano, one of the great drivers of this language, appear in the lineup an icon like Eli Ibarra and footballers like Ane Azkona, Asier Villalibre and Josu, from Genuine. All of them, accompanied by other rojiblancos and rojiblancas so indispensable in the operation of the institution.

From November 20 to December 4

Euskaraldia is a social exercise to change the linguistic habits among speakers who understand Basque, extended to all spaces of society and limited in time.

The main objective of Euskaraldia is to increase the use of Basque by changing the linguistic habits of citizens. In 2020, the exercise will take place from November 20 to December 4 and this year, in addition to participating as individuals (as 'ahobizi' speakers or Belarri prestige listeners), it will also be possible to participate in a group through the arigunes, places for language practice.
