Aston Martin to build Honda engines from 2026

MADRID, 24 May. (EUROPA PRESS) –

The Aston Martin team has announced this Wednesday that Honda will be its driver from 2026, when the new regulations for power units in Formula 1 will come into force that same year, according to a statement.

“The AMF1 team has announced its partnership with Honda starting in 2026,” the team advanced in a note. “The Japanese manufacturer will supply power units to the team from the 2026 season, in compliance with the new F1 power unit regulations that come into force that year,” the statement continued.

This new regulation will mean a “significant” electrification in the discipline, as well as the one hundred percent sustainable fuel that will be supplied by Aramco, Aston Martin’s “strategic partner”.

Thus, the British team begins a new path with the Japanese manufacturer, which left Formula 1 in 2021. Aston Martin takes over from Red Bull, until now with Japanese power units and which in 2026 will join Ford. “I would like to welcome Honda and Honda Racing Corporation (HRC) to the Aston Martin Aramco Cognizant Formula 1 Team. We share a mutual drive, determination and relentless ambition to succeed on the track,” said the team’s CEO, Lawrence Stroll.

“Honda is a global titan and their motorsport success is age-old and incredibly impressive. I’d like to thank Mibe and Watanabe, and the entire HRC team, as we embark together on this exciting future starting in 2026.” .

For his part, the CEO of Honda, Toshihiro Mibe, acknowledged that they intended to “take on a new challenge” in F-1, “the world’s top competition” that “strives to become a sustainable racing competition.” “It is in line with the direction that Honda is going towards carbon neutrality and will become a platform that will facilitate the development of our electrification technologies,” he stressed.

“Honda is a company that has a history of growing by taking on challenges and winning world-class races. With the new regulations in 2026, the key to winning will be a compact, lightweight, high-output electric motor, with a high-performance battery capable of to manage high and fast power, as well as energy management technology”, pointed out Mibe about the keys to the electric future of competition.

From the Japanese manufacturer they assured that they “share the same sincere attitude and determination to win” with Aston Martin. “Starting in 2026, we will work together and fight for the World title as Aston Martin Aramco Honda,” Mibe said.
