Arturo Grávalos, La Rioja cyclist of the EOLO-KOMETA of Contador, dies

MADRID, 19 May. (EUROPA PRESS) –

The Spanish cyclist Arturo Grávalos, from the EOLO-KOMETA Cycling Team, died this morning at the age of 25 after a fight against cancer -he was diagnosed with a brain tumor- which prevented him from competing since 2021, as confirmed by the professional team, which It is part of the Alberto Contador Foundation.

“With deep regret and immense pain, from the EOLO-Kometa Cycling Team we announced the death of our runner Arturo Grávalos last morning. The cyclist from La Rioja had turned 25 on March 2. His death leaves us an irreplaceable hole in the heart, since we will never be able to forget his joy and his everlasting smile”, stated the team.

They add that their desire to live, always present even before the onset of the disease, leaves “thousands of moments”. Grávalos underwent surgery in November 2021 for a brain tumor that had been diagnosed a few weeks earlier, after several days with strange sensations during training.

“The evolution of that operation was very positive, but the cyclist had to go through the operating room again on several occasions to try to eradicate a tumor. Arturo never gave up, because such was his nature, to get back to endorsing himself in competition” the team said.

Specifically, the man from La Rioja did not set deadlines for his return to the roads, but he was clear that he was going to face each race as an opportunity that life gave him. “Arturo wanted to leave his mark on the sport that he loved so much and in which he generated so much love and affection,” added EOLO-Kometa.

His last race was the Giro del Medio Brenta in 2021, in his first year as a professional. “The grief or regret kept it to himself, he refused to give it continuity. Armed with his huge smile, his closeness and his frankness, his thing was to build, support, praise and thank. We will never forget you, Arturo. Rest easy in peace,” his team wished him, asking for “maximum respect” for family and friends.
