“Artificial Intelligence will make a lot of jobs useless”: Elon Musk says study this

It is less and less strange to see Elon Musk talking about the future of society. His speculations and forecasts about the coming decades fill newspaper pages and social media posts. On this occasion, the CEO of Tesla and SpaceX has put on the table lthe implications that Artificial Intelligence will have on the labor market.

“Artificial Intelligence will make jobs a bit pointless,” Musk said Thursday, speaking alongside Alibaba founder Jack Ma at the World Conference on Artificial Intelligence in Shanghai.

According to the tech mogul, this tech has bought a lot of ballots to finish much of the work that today are part of the world productive fabric.

A new industrial revolution?

In response to the words of Elon Musk, a question immediately pops up: “Should we worry?”. Following what history has taught, perhaps you should not get overexcited.

With each industrial revolution, the job market has completely changed. Every time new machines were implemented in the production chain, a large number of jobs were destroyed. But nevertheless, this caused other.

Whereas before it was necessary a worker to put a nut, now it was necessary an employee to control the machine that puts the nut. This principle is the one that has reigned throughout two centuries of industrial evolution.

For this reason, do not reach an excessive level of concern. Simply, it will be necessary to adapt to the new needs of the labor market. In this sense, the least vulnerable to this work interruption will be the people who can program Artificial Intelligence software, as Elon Musk assured in the statements that he collects CNBC.

To enter this segment of the population, the magnate recommends that young people study engineering. However, even then, “Artificial Intelligence will simply write its own software”.

So, “what should I study?”, Many young people will ask themselves. Again, the destruction of one type of job leads to the creation of another. In a productive fabric governed by machines, consumers will be increasingly dependent on human interaction.

That is, all production, and perhaps distribution, will be in the hands of Artificial Intelligence. However, someone will have to take care of getting customers to consume these products and services. In this sense, all those people and companies that are dedicated to areas that depend on human interaction will continue to prosper, since they will be increasingly needed.

“If you’re working on something that involves people or engineering, it’s probably a good focus for your future,” Musk concluded.
