MADRID, 20 Jul. (EUROPA PRESS) –
The Spanish Moto2 rider Arón Canet (Kalex) acknowledges that he was “on the verge” of retiring in 2020 because “a ‘bundle’ entered his head”, and that thanks to the help of those around him he made the decision to continue competing.
“I have never told this, but in 2020 a ‘tangled’ got into my head and I was even on the verge of retiring. At the end of the season, the first year of Moto2 had not gone well and I thought that I had not put in all the effort that I could”, confessed Canet on the program ‘La Caja de DAZN’.
The Valencian assured that he did not look good with himself and spoke with his assistant, José Luis Alcarria. “He told me: ‘Let’s see, if you don’t feel well, Arón, we’ll leave him and he’s done, we’ll find another dynamic.’ But then my mind relaxed,” he explained.
About his assistant, he comments that they have a “father-son relationship, but much more liberal and much more friendly” and that “they complement each other very well”. “He has always been my father’s right hand when I was little. For me he is father, mother, boyfriend, girlfriend, lover, both male and female, son, because many times I have to be the father, older brother and little brother” he declared.
The Sito Pons team rider also positively values the work of his physical trainer, Miguel Maeso. “We started to work a lot. For me, training takes a lot of things out of my head, I really enjoy it, I relax a lot and it’s my day to day,” he said.
“I HAVE A VERY GOOD ROLL WITH QUARTARARO”
Canet spoke about his current Flexbox HP40 team manager, Sito Pons, with whom he has started working this season. “It is difficult to work with such good people, who have been world champions, because they try to instill many things in you and, in the end, you are an active driver and you also have a hard time understanding yourself with your boss,” he said.
“Sito is a person with whom I have had six races and from whom I have to learn a lot. I have to meet him, but things as they are: any advice that a two-time world champion can give you is welcome,” stressed the pilot. Spanish.
After three seasons in Moto2, at this time fourth in the general classification, 30 points behind the leader, and there is already speculation that he could be Fabio Quartararo’s partner next year in MotoGP. “Where do I have to sign? I have a good vibe with him,” he admitted.
“I think that, in the end, in the ‘paddock’ I have distanced myself a lot from people because I am a person who goes to his own ball a lot professionally, since it is difficult for me to be your colleague and then to be on the track. When we were little, we We got together a lot. We were teammates and on some occasions, he was my ‘umbrella stand'”, Canet said about his relationship with the Frenchman.
The Valencian rider also recalled the eating problems he suffered during his time in Moto3. “In my circle, nobody put up with me. I remember having arguments in the team for nonsense about not having eaten,” he warned.
Canet had a “very bad time” at that stage. “Now I weigh myself once a week, yes, because in the end I look physically good. I’m having results and more or less we’re doing very well. But I weighed myself 15-20 times a day. I suffered from bulimia, I didn’t sleep, dizziness , fainting, white, bad milk,” he stressed.
The pilot remembered in the interview one of the “most important” people in his life, his grandfather Alfonso. “He is one of the people I have loved the most. He died of pancreatic cancer and was very ‘heavy,'” he lamented.
“Seeing a tough person, who is from the countryside, cry, because it touches your heart. Crying, he told me a very important thing: ‘Look, Arón, two pieces of advice: they have detected this for me in a month and I am going to another neighborhood. Do not do as I did, that of ten I spent one and saved nine. Spend four, but, at least, you enjoy it,'” he concluded.
