Arias: preseason and loan

Santiago Arias will join Atlético in this next preseason. The 29-year-old Colombian defender has been injured throughout the past season. Atlético loaned him to Leverkusen, since Simeone preferred to stay with Trippier and Vrsaljko. The first was a permanent and almost essential starter and the second did not have a great participation, although he did have to play when the English could not do so.

Arias, 29, has a contract with Atlético until 2023 and was seriously injured on October 10 last year in a match between Colombia and Venezuela. Later he underwent surgery in Madrid for a fracture-dislocation of his left ankle and did not play again. The last months of the exercise were spent recovering, already on the field of play. Arias will do the preseason with Atlético from July 7, although he knows that he has all the ballots to leave.
