Arezo, the new jewel of Uruguayan football, in the sights of Europe

He Uruguayan River Plate forward Matías Arezo, 18 years old, is the new jewel of that country that is already in the sights of Europe “with different proposals” of several teams and for which he could pass to the old continent at the end of the negotiations.

This was stated in an interview with the local station Radio Uruguay the president of the club, Willie Tucci, who added that “the idea” is for him to be transferred abroad during this period, although he did not want to reveal more details about the contacts of European teams.

“This is what we have discussed with him and his representative (the well-known Paco Casal), in addition, because we are focused on making a transfer of an amount, which we have already discussed, and it is impossible that here in Uruguay that can be paid”, said before the rumors that Arezo was transferred to Peñarol.

In addition, he affirmed that when River Plate has sent its players to both Nacional and Peñarol, the two greats of local football, “they have not improved.”

“Matías is not a player who needs to show himself in Peñarol and Nacional and today he is in all the international media as the best 9 of his generation, at 18 years old”, he claimed.

Tucci explained that in the statistics Arezo has 18 goals in 50 games, figures that, compared to similar numbers of the consecrated Atlético de Madrid striker Luis Suárez, “are not so different”

“I think Matías does not need to prove anything,” he said.

Likewise, he highlighted the support of his institution by the entire board of directors as well as his coach, the former Uruguayan coach Jorge Fossati, who want a destination for the player in which he allows him to develop both professionally and in the family.

According to the web portal www.transfermarkt.es, the Uruguayan player's market value is 1.5 million euros.

At the national team level, Arezo has worn the shirts of the sub 17, 20 and 23. In addition, last November he was summoned by coach Oscar Washington Tabárez for the senior team, but a muscular discomfort prevented him from joining the group.

Arezo was one of the revelations of the last Copa Sudamericana, in which he became the youngest Uruguayan player to score a double in the tournament, according to Conmebol records, by scoring two goals against Atlético Nacional de Medellín with 17 years and 349 days.
