Aquaservice avoids the consumption of more than three tons of single-use plastic in La Vuelta

MADRID, 20 Sep. (EUROPA PRESS) –

The bottled water distribution company with Aquaservice dispenser has avoided the consumption of 3.2 tons of single-use plastic, the equivalent of almost 200,000 bottles, during the last Cycling Tour of Spain, which concluded last Sunday in Madrid as the ‘most sustainable’ edition in its 88 years of history.

In total, the company has supplied more than 100,000 liters of water to the cycling teams, organizational staff, journalists and guests, thanks to the more than 80 hydration points installed in different areas during the 21 stages of the Spanish round.

The collaboration with Aquaservice allows, from 2021, La Vuelta to be the first ‘large’ of the professional circuit in which a solution has been implemented that eliminates single-use plastic waste derived from water consumption. Since their collaboration began, 9.6 tons of this type of plastic have been avoided.

Already in the first year of the collaboration, in 2021, the consumption of single-use plastic was reduced by 94 percent, a figure that has continued to be surpassed in subsequent editions.

“For all of us who are part of Aquaservice, it has been a pleasure to have collaborated, once again, with this competition that is so important for Spanish sport, making it more circular than ever. Being able to provide a real solution for water consumption without generating waste single-use plastics allows us to transform sports competitions into their most sustainable version. We started the path with La Vuelta three years ago and it has been an inspiration for other competitions and events that have opted for more sustainable and environmentally friendly water consumption. environment,” said Aquaservice Marketing Director Margarita Baselga.

For his part, the general director of La Vuelta, Javier Guillén, highlighted the importance of this collaboration on the path towards a more sustainable return. “The agreement with Aquaservice is necessary and essential. Together we have developed a solution that greatly reduces the environmental impact of the race. There are already almost 10 tons of single-use plastic that we have stopped consuming since 2021. We hope that the collaboration continue for many more years because with Aquaservice we not only share the passion for cycling, but also a way of understanding the future of the planet,” he said.

Aquaservice’s collaboration with La Vuelta is part of the company’s program for sustainable sports and culture, within which it collaborates with other events and competitions such as the Goya Awards, the Feroz Awards, the Copa del Rey and the Copa de La Queen of handball and the Women’s Handball World Cup, among others.
