Ansu Fati says goodbye to 2020: four months off

Ansu Fati says goodbye to 2020 after confirming that he will be out for about four months. The Blaugrana forward underwent an arthroscopy this Monday at the Quirón Clinic, by the team of surgeon Ramon Cugat, to save the internal meniscus of the left knee, suturing it and thus ensuring that the player does not have sequelae in the future. However, this therapy also implies a longer sick leave time: in the best of cases, Fati will not be available until the month of March.

The great challenge for the doctors was for Fati to maintain his original meniscus: at his age, having lost part of the meniscus would have been a real problem in the medium and long term, especially at the level of cartilage degeneration and osteoarthritis. With this therapeutic measure, it is achieved that the player can recover perfectly from the injury, although it will force him to spend a longer time off.

If part of the original meniscus had been removed, the recovery time would not have lasted more than two months, although the risk of degenerative sequelae would increase in the future. Likewise, if the conservative method had been chosen, the sick leave time would have been around six weeks, but increasing, even more if possible, the risks of future sequelae.

Now the striker will need approximately three months to heal the meniscus and a month to be able to train to full capacity with the group, so, in the best of cases, he would be available by early March.

After this confirmation of Fati's time out, Ronald Koeman will have more strength in his arguments to claim the nine he needs in attack to reinforce the squad. It is clear that the chances of Lyon forward Memphis Depay coming into the winter market are redoubled, following the frustrated attempt in the summer. The player himself has already threatened again in recent days that his continuity in the French team is in suspense.
