The International Ski Federation (FIS) has formalized this Wednesday Andorra’s candidacy to host the 2029 Alpine Ski World Championships, facing off for said process with the candidacies of Narvik (Norway) and Val Gardena (Italy).
After the first day of the FIS Technical Committee Meetings, which are being held in Dubrovnik (Croatia), the International Federation has given the green light to the Andorran competition thanks to its Grandvalira Resorts facilities with the Soldeu El Tarter sectors.
“This is the second time that Andorra presents a candidacy to host the World Championships, and it is also the second of the Norwegian candidacy, while the Italian one from Val Gardena is the first time that it has done so on that date,” he reported. the Andorran Ski Federation (FAE) in a press release, in accordance with a process of presenting candidacies whose term ended on May 1.
“Now, the organizers have until August 1, 2023 to present a detailed dossier with the offer of each candidacy,” the FAE has indicated. “They should focus on a specific FIS questionnaire that asks for details of the organizational plan, such as sports management, venue, facilities, legacy, job potential, volunteering, sustainability and environment,” the note added.
In the same way, the FIS will assess “sports integrity, accommodation, transportation, security, commercial rights and marketing, transmission operations capacity and media services, communication and promotion, ceremonies, attention to the spectator, ski festival, legal aspects, organizational structure and financing”.
Once that date of next August has passed, a formal meeting will be held with each candidate city. “In April 2024, both the questionnaires of the candidatures and the FIS reports will be made public, which will be distributed to the different national Federations, the presidents of the technical committees and the FIS council”, the press release stated. .
Finally, during the 55th International Ski Congress that will be held from June 4, 2024 in Reykjavik (Iceland), each candidacy will make its final presentation before the FIS Council, which will be the one that will finally choose the organizing entity of the 2029 World Championships.
