Ana Peleteiro, Adel Mechaal and Mariano García lead the list of Spain for the World Cup in Belgrade

MADRID, 4 Mar. (EUROPA PRESS) –

Olympic medalist Ana Peleteiro, Adel Mechaal and Mariano García lead the list of 25 athletes, 13 women and 12 men, who will compete in the World Indoor Athletics Championships that will be held in Belgrade from March 19 to 20.

As indicated this Friday by the Royal Spanish Athletics Federation (RFEA), the chosen ones have been selected “after meeting the criteria established by the coach José Peiró and the RFEA Sports Directorate”, who have formed a team significantly superior in number to the one that He went to Birmingham (England) in 2018, where 15 athletes participated, only three women.

In this list, in addition to the names of Peleteiro, Olympic bronze medalist in triple jump and world indoor bronze four years ago, Mechaal, current European record holder in the 3,000m and who will also run the 1,500m, and García, leader of the year in the 800m, stand out other national record holders such as Maribel Pérez (60 m) and María Vicente, or the return of Bruno Hortelano. The sprinter from Madrid had not been in a major international event since the 2018 Open Air Berlin European Championships and will compete in the 400 meters.

In addition, the federation confirmed that it has requested World Athletics the inclusion of the two 4×400 m relays that would be formed by Carmen Avilés, Aauri Bokesa, Laura Bueno, Sara Gallego and Geena Stephens, the female one, and by Iñaki Cañal, Bernat Erta, Manuel Guijarro, Bruno Hortelano and Javier Sánchez, the male.
