The Spaniard was favorite and ran out of options when he was hit by another car in the victory of local Josef Newgarden

MADRID, 29 May. (EUROPA PRESS) –

The Spanish driver Àlex Palou (Chip Ganassi Racing) had to settle for fourth position in the Indianapolis 500 this Sunday, despite a great comeback, due to a blow at the pit exit that prevented him from fighting for victory .

The Catalan was one of the favorites to win the legendary Indianapolis 500, due to experience and the pole position he had achieved. Palou, the only Spanish champion of the IndyCar Series in the United States, was hit by the Dutchman Rinus Veekay when they were coming out of the pit lane halfway through the race.

Palou was running sixth at the time and went up to 25th position, launching the comeback after they fixed his car. The Catalan finished fourth, in a finish with three red flags, to maintain his dominance on the IndyCar circuit but without fighting for the victory that Newgarden claimed.

The American snatched first place from Marcus Ericsson, champion last year, in an intense final sprint, with a green flag, track and a lap to decide the champion.
