CINCINNATI (UNITED STATES), 3 En. (DPA/EP) –
The American defender of the Bills Damar Hamlin suffered a cardiovascular stop during the game this Monday between the Cincinnati Bengals and the Buffalo Bills of the NFL, after a defensive action in the first quarter, for which he had to be revived on the field and later transferred to the hospital, where he is in critical condition.
“Hamlin received immediate medical treatment on the field by the team, independent doctors and paramedics. He was transported to a local hospital and is in critical condition. Our thoughts are with Damar and the Buffalo Bills. As soon as we have more information, the we will share,” NFL boss Roger Goodell said in an official statement.
For his part, Hamlin’s agent, Ira Turner, was also not optimistic about the 24-year-old athlete’s health and asked to pray for his family. “We do not have an update (on his condition) at this time. Please keep the player’s family in all his prayers,” he said.
After Hamlin was taken off the field by ambulance, the Bills players gathered and knelt together in a circle on the ground. Bills coach Sean McDermott, his counterpart Zac Taylor and the referees then decided to call off the game.
