An error in the measurement cools the euphoria of the female length in Torrent

The Spanish Championship lives a second day of new titles and a blur of 20 centimeters

MADRID, 30 Jul. (EUROPA PRESS) –

The second day of the Spanish Athletics Championship was marked this Saturday by the error in the measurement of the women’s long jump test that was uncovered after what seemed like a historic final with three athletes in the seven meters, a stick with work for resolve in the appointment that hosts Torrent (Valencia).

Tessy Ebosele (7.09), María Vicente (7.02) and Fátima Diame (6.94) left what at times was called the best longitude final of the championships, but hours later the fuss broke out that ended up being true, confirmed by the Royal Spanish Athletics Federation (RFEA) in a statement after midnight.

“During the verification process, an error has been detected in the indirect measurement systems, which affect the jumps made by the athletes from the 4th round of jumps until the end of the contest. The error detected affects all the jumps equally, with an upward deviation of 20 cm between the real measurements and those that have been given as official during the competition”, says the official note about what happened.

“The RFEA is going to open an investigation procedure to analyze the causes of this error, and verify the validity of the real measurement of the jumps, always adjusting to the provisions of the World Athletics competition regulations. The official results of the test will be published once this research process is finished,” he adds.

Thus, the athletes will have to wait to find out the result of a final that had catapulted them to the World Cup in Budapest in 20 days. The error with the length clouded the rest of the day, which was level and many finals. Among them stood out the triumph of Sergio Fernández, clear dominator of the 400 meter hurdles with his eighth Spanish champion title.

The Navarrese, who was returning after a two-year hiatus due to various injuries, fell 12 hundredths off his national record. The eighth title was also celebrated by Pablo Torrijos in the triple jump. The speed had the name of Sergio López Barranco and Lucía Carrillo in the 100 meter dash. Meanwhile, Daniel Arce won the 3,000 meter hurdles and Marta García, in the 5,000. The decathlon and heptathlon went to Bruno Comín and Carmen Ramos.

On Saturday it opened in Torrent with the finals of the women’s 10,000 meter walk and also women’s discus, where María Pérez and June Kintana added their third and fourth absolute titles. The Grenadine did not fail her favoritism and stood out from the group from the beginning. The 35km world record holder reached the finish line in 45:02.15, without a duel with the national record holder Raquel González due to a virus.

Kintana from Navarra took the lead from the first pitch, with 51.63, and reached 53.88 in the sixth to win without discussion, ahead of the Catalans Andrea Alarcón and Daniela Fernández.
