Ambros Martín: “The difficulties have to strengthen us for the future”

MADRID, 6 Dic. (EUROPA PRESS) –

The national women's handball coach, Ambros Martín, celebrated another good reaction from Spain in a complicated match this Wednesday against Argentina to remain undefeated in the 2023 World Cup, although he pointed out that there are complications “to avoid” in the face of upcoming duels with more demands on the way to the quarterfinals.

“Happy with the result, with the team's work and performance in difficult moments. We should avoid reaching those situations, but we have learned from this type of games, not to start with the intensity required for what we are playing for.” “, he said in statements provided by the Royal Spanish Handball Federation (RFEBM), collected by Europa Press.

The Canary Islands coach explained the tension of seeking two points at the start of the Main Round, against an opponent who is not in the pools to advance to the crossroads. “We are waiting for these moments, we are saving it, but we have perhaps played with too much tension when we had the ball, mainly in the first half. With unclear ideas and little intensity in terms of aid and defense. We must congratulate Argentina, they know us very good,” he said.

“The fact that both teams are fighting for two points that can give us the possibility of advancing makes the team play with added pressure. We are meeting teams like today that are in the Main Round and also want to demonstrate their level and without that pressure,” he added.

On the other hand, Martín confessed that the margin of error in a match will decrease against the Czech Republic and the Netherlands. “I am very happy, just as happy as against Brazil and the previous ones. One more game, the difficulties we have encountered today have to help us and strengthen us for the future, but we have to avoid reaching certain situations that in certain games we will not be able to correct,” he commented.

“At the beginning of the second half the defense was very good and we had very clear situations, that encouraged us. When we scored we distanced ourselves,” he concluded from the Arena Nord in Fredrikshavn (Denmark).
