Amalia’s international debut on her Caribbean tour: Máxima’s guest look in the mangrove forest

Amalia, 19 years old, debuts on the international agenda with this extensive trip through the Caribbean: Bonaire, Aruba, Sint Maarten (Saint Martin) and Curaçao. The princess is covered by her parents, the kings Guillermo y maximumwho are sharing in their official networks the photo album of a visit that arrives overshadowed by the colonial past of the Netherlands and by slavery on the overseas islands.

It’s a long trip. The Kings of the Netherlands and Amalia started the tour on January 27 and will return on February 9. The royal family began their tour on Bonaire. As the official statement says, “The visit is dedicated to the presentation of the Princess of Orange in the Caribbean part of the Kingdom.” A trip “of culture, nature, colonial past, deployment of defense, sports and meetings with the inhabitants.”

The royal expedition, aboard a launch, toured the mangrove forests of Sorobon Bay. A nature walk and a visit to the rich refuge that is an important habitat for young sea turtles. The romantic and ladylike look of Máxima is striking, who wears a powdery pink dress with mini flowers, by Zimmermann, combined with a headdress in the middle of the mangrove excursion.

They closed the visit in the cultural market Taste of Bonaire, with local products and autochthonous gastronomy. The Reyes and his daughter toured the fresh food stalls and tried local dishes. Later they participated in the Antillean bingo game ‘Bon Ku Ne’. The evening concluded with music and dancing.

After Bonaire, the tour continues through Aruba, Curaçao, Sint Maarten (Saint Martin), Sint Eustatius and Saba. This journey is for the Princess of Orange her first official international trip. Almost three years ago, in March 2020, her parents traveled to Indonesia. The head of state then pronounced some historic words of public apology “for the excessive violence” used by the former metropolis in Indonesia during the struggle for independence (from 1945 to 1949).
