Álvaro Romero: “My dream is to play in the First Division with Algeciras”

– I think that both the coaching staff, the team and the fans would have signed this start. The sensations are very good, showing that you can dream about everything.

– It is a connection that I do not know why it has arisen like this, but I arrived, I played good games and the fans recognized it. From there everything has gone hand in hand. We have been close to a promotion and now we are in the playoffs, where we hope to continue.

– I suppose that, after last season, the objective will be, at least, to qualify for the promotion league.

– I think this League has a higher level than last year and the first objective is to achieve permanence. From there, do not set limits and, at the very least, try to match what was last year.

– Only one defeat in the 11 games played. You have got a team that is very difficult to beat and even score a goal.

– To day of today defensively I believe that we are the team less thrashed. We are working with the errors and polishing the virtues that we have at the top, where we have good players. You can see that the team is very compensated from the back to the front.

– You will be happy with your performance.

– What am I going to say! I’m a top scorer and I think I’m playing good games. The coach is giving me confidence and in the team we all understand each other very well. It is time to extend the streak as long as possible and make the maximum points in the fewest days possible.

– Did you expect when you arrived at Algeciras to end up being Pichichi of the entire First RFEF?

– No. If I tell you that I am lying because I have never been a great scorer. I have had good numbers, but I have not been to score many goals. I’m happy and trying, with the concepts of the coach and the ones they gave me last season, to extend the streak and score as many goals as possible, because that will be points for the team.

– He has scored many goals without being a forward.

– I’ve never been. I have played in all attacking positions, but I have never been a striker, but I think that a player watching a lot of football, studying what the best in football do and, above all, training is how he progresses and develops qualities that he did not have before. .

– In addition, he has been chosen on several occasions to be part of the eleven of the day.

– There are many players in the category and they are very good. Honestly, I am one of those who thinks that flattery weakens. I am very grateful, obviously, I see everything, but I am not one of those who takes my chest for it. I keep working and training even harder to keep up the level.

– Is it being, at the moment, the best season of your career?

– I think so. Both physically and mentally I see myself prepared to continue on the same line and dream of being promoted to Algeciras or, at least, following my path and my career, that my goal is to be an elite footballer.

– There was a change of coach this summer, Salva Ballesta left and Iván Ania arrived. How about him?

– I’m very happy with him. Iván has also been an elite player, in the First Division, and they are more or less similar profiles. Each one has their style and their way of watching football. They are both good coaches and, above all, they are good people. Beyond the coach, you see the person and they know how to convey things. That is the fundamental thing in a dressing room and knowing how to manage the group.

– Ania is getting the best of you.

– From me and the whole team. We are twenty-something people and we are all super happy with him, just like I think he is with us. This is group and team work. We are very happy with him.

– With Unionistas you score a goal for Real Madrid in the Copa del Rey, is it the goal you love the most?

– It is the most special because not every day a goal is scored against Real Madrid. Sometimes it costs me even in the Play! It is something that you never expect to happen and I have it in my memory.

– If you score the goal of promotion to Second with Algeciras, which one would you be most fond of?

– If I score the promotion goal, for me, it would be better than the goal against Real Madrid. Especially for the club and for last year. It would be in my top 1.

– Now they face their subsidiary, Real Madrid Castilla, how do you see the game?

– It is one of the best subsidiaries in the world and has players with a lot of projection and quality, but they are still kids and we all know what can happen in a game like that. We have to be super focused and try to neutralize his game and his individual quality to take advantage of our weapons. Although we have a lot of casualties, those who leave the bench and those who are on the field know that they will perform the same or better than the one who was.

– It does not seem to be the best year for Castilla, but in these last two days it is improving.

– They are players who have to show that they are there to progress and reach the first team, which I imagine will be their dream. We also have a lot of work and a lot of work. I think we also have more experience than they do in this type of game and in this category, which is still a stronger Second Division B. We will use our strengths to try to achieve victory.

– On top of that, the Real team eliminated us, which is a great team with good players who, almost all of them, are in the Second Division and with a first-team projection. I think that in the end it is the same if a subsidiary eliminates you from another team.

– Something that, at the moment, has not reached the First RFEF is the VAR. Would you like it to also arrive at Primera RFEF?

– Yes, because in the end a fairer football is played. You can raise a goal that you should not and it makes you lose three points that you have worked for all week, or the other way around. For a fairer football it is worth it, but it is true that not all clubs can afford to install it.

– At least the goals you celebrate calmly.

– Yes, you celebrate the goal and you know that they no longer take it away from you.

– You live it from within. Has the creation of the First and Second RFEF benefited the most humble football?

– For me it was a total success because, although Second B was demanding, there were always teams that stood out more than others and those at the bottom had a hard time leaving. Now there is a lot of equality and the last one can beat the first one. There is a lot of level and you cannot lose focus for even five minutes because they have scored two goals, which is what happened to us in Cornellá. I am really enjoying the category.

– Is there more equality?

– For me there is a lot of equality. It has been seen that Villarreal B, who was unbeaten, has been losing to Castilla and Alcoyano for two weeks. In the end, anyone beats anyone.

– Do you think it is easier or more difficult to ascend now?

– There is very little difference in points and if you win two games you are up and if you lose them you are down. There is a direct promotion for the first position and the one that is stronger in that continuous line will be the one that obtains it. They all have great teams and we can all qualify for promotion. Of course, you can not neglect because the descent is also close.

– And, personally, what is your goal in your career?

– My dream is to be a First Division player as soon as possible. If it can be with Algeciras, and if not, with Sevilla, which is my city’s team.

– Yes, Juan Sabas gave me the opportunity to debut. I was called up about ten games and played four or five. Professional football is very beautiful. It is what every child who likes soccer always dreams of.

– I studied Baccalaureate and then I got a Higher Degree in Sports. Now my intention is to get into a sports career to continue training and, once I finish football, have my studies and a future job that will allow me to be something in life tomorrow.

– Will Algeciras get promotion to Second this season?

– I wish! With our feet always on the ground, but we can dream of everything.
