Álvaro Fernández: “My dream is to play with the absolute”

Álvaro Fernández is the youngest goalkeeper in the First Division. He is a fixture on Luis De La Fuente's lists and he has an intense summer ahead of him if he qualifies for the final phase of the Eurocup and the possibility of entering the Olympic Selection.

Ask. How do you face a new call from the U21?

Answer. We are the current champions and we have a great responsibility ahead of us. We have an excellent group, although some of them have gone with Luis Enrique. The 23 mentioned are able to win the three games and go to June to revalidate the title. It is a fantastic challenge. I am looking forward to it because it is one of my goals for this season.

The rivals are Slovenia, Italy and the Czech Republic …

We will have to face each game one hundred percent. They are three great teams. Slovenia will be difficult to be the organizers. Italy is the strongest party. We hope to get to the last game without risking anything, but we will go all out against the Czech Republic.

You could have a summer with Euro Cup and Olympics …

They are medium-term challenges. We want to revalidate the title of European champions. Obviously the Olympics are there. I have competition, the list will be short, but I prefer to look at the most immediate matches. I have to keep playing with my team, play great games. I have to work very well with the Sociedad Deportiva Huesca.

Luis Enrique surprised on his last list by calling Robert Sánchez. Do you see yourself one day in the absolute?

I knew him from the Premier and his call is well deserved. This last call to Robert Sánchez, we are excited because the coach shows that he does not mind betting on the youth. My dream is to play with the absolute. I have gone through all the categories and I want to play with the absolute. It is my goal, I know it is complicated, but I would like to achieve it. My present is the U21, but in the future I will work to be with the absolute.

Álvaro Fernández is the youngest goal in Primera. How about?

For me it is something beneficial. I have been precocious and despite being a very young player I am at the highest level. It is also a responsibility because children look at young players and I have to show on and off the field how a goalkeeper has to be. It makes me proud, but it fills me with responsibility.

With Huesca you are the bottom of Primera. How is the team?

The feelings are better than what the classification indicates and we have to capture it by adding points. Pacheta tells us that we have to be out of relegation in the last minute of the last game, as much as we have been down there all season, for us it is not a burden.

Do you believe in permanence?

I would bet on the permanence of Huesca. We are four points behind, but there is margin ahead. We have our chances. We have matches against direct rivals and if we take them out, salvation will pass through there.

You have renewed your contract with Huesca until 2023 …

I'm very happy. I wanted to renew because Huesca has given me everything. The promotion, playing in Second and First and I am very happy here. I only focus on achieving salvation. I will always owe a lot to the Huesca Sports Society.

How much have you grown as a player since you arrived at Huesca?

I have grown in all aspects. He was a different goalkeeper and thanks to the coaches I am a goal with much more ground in the goal. I have been a very good year and a half, I am comfortable and I have realized that I can perform at the highest level.

On the last day you were a substitute after 16 games. How are these situations managed?

We are professionals and we are exposed to being indisputable or to see how your partner plays. Aspiring world elite football players have to go through these moments and they have to live them with serenity. At no time do you have to lower your arms and I will take out the controlled anger that Pacheta asks of us.
