Alonso wins head to head in Le Mans against Holgado

MADRID, 12 May. (EUROPA PRESS) –

The Colombian rider David Alonso (KTM) took victory this Sunday in the Moto3 category of the French Grand Prix, the fifth round of the Motorcycle World Championship, after winning a nice final head-to-head with the Spanish Dani Holgado (KTM), which still maintains the lead in the championship.

After the first two finishers in the World Cup could not be in the fight for victory in the Gran Premio Estrella Galicia 0,0 in Spain, the South American and the Alicante rider proved to be, for the moment, the strongest candidates for the title and after this First and second place are a little further apart for now in the general classification.

As usual in Moto3, the first race on Sunday on the Le Mans track was very tight and on the last lap a fairly large ‘train’ of riders arrived, but it only seemed that Alonso and Holgado had the ambition and took the biggest risks, with the Dutchman Collin Veijer (Husqvarna) more cautious.

The World Championship leader came out very well and took control of the race from the beginning, while Alonso stayed in the group well positioned and waiting for his moment, which would come in the final laps. Holgado led almost always, except at some point when Veijer took control, and always with the threat of the Spanish David Muñoz (KTM), who was penalized a double ‘long lap’ for the incident that ended with the Italian Ricardo Rossi (Husqvarna) on the ground.

The Spaniard tried not to lose his options despite the sanction, but his options would disappear after a fall when he was trying to catch a group that was reduced with eight laps remaining and with Holgado and Veijer, who even had a touch without consequences, in head.

The Dutchman, won in Jerez de la Frontera, wanted to take the lead with three laps remaining, at which point Alonso decided to go on the attack. Holgado wanted to respond by taking control again, but the Colombian managed to take the lead for a final lap where he showed skill in controlling the Alicante rider to take his third win of the season after Losail (Qatar) and COTA (Las Américas). with Veijer completing the podium. The Spaniards Joel Esteban (KTM) and Iván Ortolá (KTM) closed the ‘Top 5’.

In this way, Holgado, who could not repeat his victory last year in Le Mans and achieved his fourth podium of the year, remains the leader with 94 points, just one more than Alonso, while Veijer is left with 62 and more than a race away from the head.
