Alonso: “Things are going to happen, we have to keep the traps away”

MADRID, 11 Jun. (EUROPA PRESS) –

The Spanish Formula 1 driver Fernando Alonso (Alpine) regretted the usual step back on Saturday to start tenth this Sunday at the Azerbaijan Grand Prix, a race in which “things are going to happen”, something positive but if it does not fall into any “trap”.

“A bit of a mix of sensations, because yesterday in the free sessions we were going quite fast and we still expected a little more from today, but we are on 10th and 13th so a bit of the reality that sometimes we find ourselves on Saturdays that we lose a little of competitiveness,” he said in statements to Dazn, collected by Europa Press.

The double world champion explained that the appointment in Baku will surely bring surprises. “Anything can happen, I made a mistake at turn 15, Vettel and the McLarens too. Things are going to happen tomorrow and you have to be alert and focused, not make any mistakes, it’s going to be a race full of traps, you have to try to stay away from them,” he said.

“I’m happy with the time trial itself, the laps have been good, I haven’t had any big problems, the car felt good too but those three or four tenths that separate us from sixth we didn’t have today so let’s see if we can get them back tomorrow” , he added.

“Q1 was a general chaos, I came out with used tires in that session, maybe I was going slower, but this is Baku, if they start the car a minute before they are ahead of me,” he pointed out to some complaints from Alex Albon (Williams).
