Alonso squeezes the Aston Martin to finish second in Jeddah

‘Checo’ Pérez took pole position, Verstappen had a breakdown in Q2 and Carlos Sainz will start fourth

MADRID, 18 Mar. (EUROPA PRESS) –

The Spanish Formula 1 driver Fernando Alonso (Aston Martin) will start second in the Saudi Arabian Grand Prix, the second round of the World Cup, after a spectacular session this Saturday that dominated Sergio Pérez’s Red Bull and not Max Verstappen who suffered a breakdown in Q2, while Carlos Sainz (Ferrari) will start fourth.

Alonso will be on the front row of the grid this Sunday looking to repeat the podium of two weeks ago at the Bahrain Grand Prix. A different layout than the Saudi, fast, in which the double world champion maintained the high performance of Aston Martin. The Spaniard finished third behind Charles Leclerc, but the Ferrari man will have to drop his position 10 places due to suspension.

The problems of a Verstappen who was called to be the man on pole, but who had to go to the garage in Q2 without time to solve the problem, also allied with Alonso. ‘Checo’ Pérez repeated last year’s pole position to save Red Bull’s dominance. Meanwhile, Carlos Sainz suffered warming up tires in each session and, in his last attempt in Q3, he found a George Russell who messed up his lap and stayed ahead.
