Almodóvar lands in Venice with a dart for the far right and escorted by Julianne Moore and Tilda Swinton

The most awaited has arrived. Pedro Almodovar has landed at the Venice International Film Festival and has done so escorted Tilda Swinton y Julianne Moore. They were the stars of this Monday, September 2. The man from La Mancha has presented his first film in English at the 81st edition in which he will compete for the Golden Lion, The room next door. Along with the actresses, John Turturro joins the cast of this film that will hit Spanish theaters on October 18th by Warner Bros.

The three of them walked the red carpet at the Lido, demonstrating their complicity and good harmony. Almodóvar surprised everyone with a very original ‘barbiecore’ look, far from the classic tuxedo usually seen at these types of events. With his inseparable dark glasses (due to the photophobia he suffers from), he adorned the lapel of his jacket with an impressive brooch in the shape of a golden feather.

Her ‘muses’ have also opted for very striking designs: Julianne, in a gold sequin dress with a deep V-neckline; Tilda, in a two-piece outfit consisting of transparent tailored trousers and an XL jacket with a mandarin collar, jewelled buttons and tulle ruffles, designed by Chanel.

Hours earlier, at the press conference, Pedro Almodóvar spoke out against “hate speech” and described the presentation of immigrant children as invaders as “delusional” and “deeply stupid.” His film, which tells the story of a woman who accompanies a friend in her decision to die, played by Julianne Moore and Tilda Swinton, speaks about “empathy, generosity and friendship,” the director said.

“My film is the response to the hate speech we hear every day, at least in Spain and I believe all over the world. It is exactly the opposite of these speeches,” said Pedro at the press conference to present The room next door (The room next door). “We all have problems with immigration, not just in Europe, France or Spain, and from the film, although we are talking about a personal and particular case, I want to send a message (…) to all those unaccompanied children who are fighting to reach our borders and who, according to the Spanish far right, at least, want the government to send the Navy to prevent them from entering,” the director denounced. He added: “Turning them into invaders is something so delusional, so profoundly stupid and so unjust that what I propose is the opposite.”

For the presentation, the Oscar-winning actress for Still Alice She chose a wintery dress in a two-tone red and black with a classic print and midi length. Her partner Tilda Swinton looked divine in capri-cut trousers with a matching navy blue top.
