With the countdown set to their wedding day, the mayor of Madrid and his fiancée, Teresa de Borbón’s granddaughter, have taken advantage of these dates to travel to Malaga and enjoy the Holy Week atmosphere there. Sharing their interest in the festivities of this time, we could see José Luis Martínez Almeida and Teresa Urquijo enjoying the processions from the top of one of the city’s balconies, where they seemed very close and grateful to be able to live this experience together a week of saying ‘yes, I want’.
But the twenty-something woman and the Madrid mayor have a lot of planning, preparations, details to close and commitments before the big event that will consecrate their love, next Saturday, April 6. The wedding will be held at Teresa’s family estate, El canto de la cruz, located in Colmenar Viejo (Madrid). The property belongs to the bride’s maternal grandparents, Teresa de Borbón-Dos Sicilias and Íñigo Moreno de Arteaga, Marquises of Laserna. The councilor’s fiancee, a graduate of Icade and an analyst at Merlin Properties, spends a lot of time on that farm, where she enjoys another of her great passions (apart from her future husband), horse riding, since her grandmother raises thoroughbred horses there with her Flor de Lis Stud Farm.
But holidays don’t last forever and this Thursday the mayor of Madrid and his fiancée arrived at Atocha station to participate in the capital’s Holy Week celebrations. José Luis revealed how they have lived these last few days in the south of the peninsula: “We have enjoyed Malaga, since La Paloma has not been able to leave, we have the Landing of the Legion, but now it is Madrid’s turn.”
The Madrid councilor and his fiancée have not wanted to comment on anything that has to do with their upcoming marriage. The mayor was silent when asked if he has prepared his suit, or if they have organized the honeymoon. He also did not reveal if he is nervous now that there are so few days left to take the step: “First let’s see how Easter ends.” Teresa Urquijo walked next to him but, upon seeing the press, she walked away from her fiancé. Before leaving in her car, she gave the media a pleasant smile without making any statements.
Despite the silence of the couple, little by little we are learning details such as honeymoon destination. What we cannot confirm is whether Juan Carlos I will attend the wedding. Let’s not forget that the bride’s grandmother is the first cousin of the previous monarch. Teresa of Borbón-Two Sicilies is a cousin of the King Emeritus (they were born the same year) and has the treatment of royal highness. She is the daughter of Alfonso of Bourbon-Two Sicilies and Bourbon, Duke of Calabria, and Alice of Bourbon-Parma and Habsburg-Lorraine.
