All that Nadal is missing

The withdrawal of Rafa Nadal for the remainder of the season, announced this Friday by the Balearic tennis player himself, will mean significant losses in terms of potential titles and points in the world ranking, in addition to not being able to defend his position in the race for the Grand Slams, now in the hands of the only member of the Big Three that will continue this year, in principle, on the ATP circuit, Novak Djokovic. The Serbian is in a position to overtake Nadal and Roger Federer in terms of major championships if he reaches 21 at the US Open.

That will be the first tournament to be lost, for the second consecutive year, the Spanish, since last year it resigned to play it as a precaution against the coronavirus pandemic. By not participating, he will lose the 2,000 he won as champion in 2019. Nor will Rafa be in the 1,000 Masters of Indian Wells, moved to October (7 to 17), and Paris (1 to 7 November), one of which has not yet has won. Likewise, he will not attend the ATP Finals, for which he did not yet have a guaranteed place and will probably lose it (he is seventh in the race), and the Davis Cup Finals with Spain (November 25 to December 5).

Between now and the end of the season, Nadal defended 2,940 points (if the results of Indian Wells 2019 are counted), which will lose, so it could fall, depending on the results of other players, to a position between seventh and ninth in the ranking with 4,875 that it would retain. It now has 7,815.
