Alexia Putellas: “When I only talk about football in an interview, women’s football will have been normalized”

MADRID, 5 Apr. (SportsFinding) –

The midfielder of FC Barcelona and the Spanish team Alexia Putellas believed that we must continue working to normalize women’s football and that this will have been achieved when she attends an interview and “only” talks about “football”, while she admitted that being focused on playing was not “aware” of the world record that the Camp Nou experienced last week.

“We have to do exercises to normalize the fact that there is a football, which is played by men and women, and above all to report a lot because it is difficult for me to find information about when it is played. The day I get an interview and can talking about football is that we have achieved it (the normalization of women’s football),” said Alexia Putellas in ‘El Larguero’.

In this sense, and after some controversies that arose on social networks after the duel against Real Madrid, he acknowledged that they now have “more visibility” and that causes them to be “seen with a magnifying glass”. “I understand it as part of this. As long as they respect my private life, I understand everything else. Each one, and more on ‘Twitter’, will think about what they create and it is up to each one what they want to believe and communicate” , he pointed out.

The one from Mollet del Vallès stressed that her life has not changed excessively after winning the ‘Golden Ball’, but “the rhythm of life” has. “I thought it would be for a short period of time, but it’s getting longer. Now I have less free time, more commitments, but it’s part of this and I accept it as such,” added the international who doesn’t see herself as the best in the world because ” everything is very even” and “there are many very good players” both at Barça and “at other teams”.

Regarding the 91,553 spectators who went to see the Champions League match against Real Madrid at the Camp Nou last Wednesday, he confessed that “when you’re playing you don’t live it and you’re not aware of it”. “Then you see the images and many people explain the experience to you and that is what you have left. But you are so involved that you are not aware of what is happening,” he stressed, assuring that they felt “very privileged” and that it is “very special” everything they are experiencing today.

Now, they will repeat the experience in the semifinals of the Champions against the German Wolfsburg. “It was something foreseen by the club, that if it worked well and the people responded, the Real Madrid match was going to be the first of many key games,” he said.

“We’ve been with this project for a long time and it’s what we have ahead of other teams”, said Alexia Putellas about the great Blaugrana dominance in the First Iberdrola. “There was a time when Barça had two options: sign the ones that were the best and pay for them, or improve the ones they had. They decided on the latter and that’s why the core now is many of us from home,” explained the Catalan, that in 2015, when there were not so many successes, he reconsidered leaving the club.

“I WOULD HAVE TO BE VERY BURNED NOT TO CONTINUE TOGETHER WITH FOOTBALL”

Now, the midfielder is focused on the Spanish team for Thursday’s friendly against Brazil and next week’s match against Scotland where they can seal their ticket to the 2023 World Cup. In the national team they play similar to their club, but “with different hues.” “It’s more a style of possession and pressure after a loss. In general, Spain has always been characterized by this,” she pointed out.

Facing the European Championship and the favoritism of the national team, he warned that “there is a high level right now and everything is very even”. “Yes, I think that if you ask any team, they tell you that Spain is going to compete.” “But in a tournament like this there are many details. I am one hundred percent sure that we are going to compete,” she stressed.

Finally, although she did not reveal in what role, the ‘Golden Ball’ confirmed that she is clear that she would like to continue linked to football when she retires. “I would have to end up very burned to not continue attached to football, I like it a lot and I don’t need to disconnect from football,” she sentenced.
