Alex Pella’s ‘Victoria’ breaks the Discovery Route record

MADRID 10 Dic. (EUROPA PRESS) –

The ‘Maxicat Victoria’, by Spanish navigator Alex Pella, broke this Tuesday the record of the Discovery Route, the original route of the first crossing of the Atlantic made by Christopher Columbus, which was held by the Spanish ‘MAPFRE’, which it has surpassed in more than a day since it left Huelva last November.

As indicated by the Catalan project, the ship crossed the finish line located in San Salvador, one of the islands of the Bahamas archipelago, at 8 hours, 23 minutes and 48 seconds, peninsular time, to complete in 8 days, 11 hours, 7 minutes and 3 seconds the journey since they left La Gomera.

Before this trip, the ‘Victoria’ had covered a first stage starting in Huelva and ending in the Canary Island in 1 day, 18 hours, 24 minutes and 38 seconds, so the overall duration of this Discovery Route has been 9 days, 17 hours, 41 minutes and 41 seconds, surpassing by 1 day, 13 hours, 18 minutes and 59 seconds the mark that had been established by the ‘MAPFRE’.

“We have come here very quickly, with very good trade wind, since we left La Gomera. The experience has been very good, the boat has worked wonderfully and so has the crew. It has allowed us to ride and get to know each other better. It has been a challenge important, since we had a lot of demands for “Mapfre and it has been very exciting to achieve it,” said Alex Pella upon arrival in San Salvador, who was accompanied by Lalou Roucayrol, Alejandro Cantero, Alberto Muñoz, Pablo Santurde, Pilar Casares and Manuel Maqueda.

And after this challenge, the next one of the ‘Desafío Victoria’ will be the main one that is already planned for 2025 and that is to break the record for traveling around the world to the West, something that has been tested with the Vuelta a Menorca, the Vuelta a España and this Route of Discovery, where it has established new brands in all of them.

“With all these tests we have learned a lot, both from the boat and the crew, and now we are prepared for the next challenge, the Elcano Oceanic Trophy, which is the record for a trip around the world to the West and of greater difficulty. It is a 100-day route, with which we want to send the message that things can be done differently, a trip around the world to go around the world,” warned Pella, who is carrying out this project with the Maxicat Victoria. , a legendary multihull ocean vessel, built in France, with a length of 33.5 meters, a beam of 17.5 meters and a mast height of 42.6 meters.
