Alex Márquez: “I think my style is not too far away to get the most out of the Ducati”

MADRID, 21 Mar. (EUROPA PRESS) –

The Spanish MotoGP rider Alex Márquez (Ducati) faces “with great enthusiasm” the 2023 season of the Motorcycle World Championship that starts this Friday in Portimao (Portugal) and in which he will debut with a Desmosedici that he believes fits his style of riding. piloting, which does not see “too far” to be able to get “the most out of it”.

“I am looking forward to the season with great enthusiasm. Making this change has also been a personal commitment of mine and I want to see how competitive I can be with a competitive motorcycle. I think the most appropriate word to define this new challenge is illusion”, admits Márquez in an interview given this Tuesday on the occasion of the launch of his Limited Edition of ‘Northweek’ sunglasses.

The Catalan acknowledges that the Desmosedici he is going to wear “adapts to many different riding styles”. “Let’s say that it has worked with many riders and it is true that to get the most out of it, you have to use a specific ride and I think my style is not too far away,” he says.

For the two-time motorcycling world champion, “when you face a new motorcycle, you have to adapt a bit to it, not just it to you.” “And we are in that process, trying to get the most out of every detail,” he adds.

Márquez is satisfied with the pre-season tests that have gone “very well”. “I think we have done a good job and we have improved day after day. I have once again enjoyed riding a motorcycle and for me that was the most important thing to recover”, he confessed.

The man from Cervera lands at Ducati after spending the last four seasons at Honda, a stage from which he has learned that in the MotoGP category you “never” have to “give up”. “It is a category that is very even at all times and every detail counts. You can never escape anything and you have to be very focused because the slightest mistake means that four pass you by. It is important to always be one hundred percent and never take nothing for granted or settle for anything,” he stresses.

Finally, from his time in the ‘queen’ category so far, he remains “with the first year, with the two podiums”. “An anecdote would be in Valencia in 2019 when Jorge Lorenzo decided to retire and there were many rumors about whether he was going to replace him. I remember having dinner with my Moto2 team and I didn’t even know if the next day I was going to be at the Moto2 test in Jerez or in Valencia with a MotoGP”, he recalls.

“It was very confusing for me, but I think we all handled it in the best way, very natural. My Moto2 mechanics and technicians were the first to be happy for me when it became official that I was going to move up to the ‘queen’ category ‘ with my brother as a teammate,” he says.
