Alex Márquez: “I have also suffered the long shadow of having an eight-time champion as a brother”

MADRID, 4 Sep. (EUROPA PRESS) –

The Spanish MotoGP rider Alex Márquez (Ducati) admits that at some points in his career he has also suffered “the long shadow of having an eight-time world champion brother”, but that little by little and with age he has left him behind in his “illusion of being world champion” of the ‘queen’ category

“When you get older it’s easier to see that path, but I’ve also suffered that long shadow that is having an eight-time world champion as a brother,” says Alex Márquez in an exclusive interview with ‘DAZN’ that is broadcast this Monday.

The Catalan remembers that “every day they compare you”. “They congratulated him and I had fallen anyway. That shows, but I have carried it inside. There have been moments to say ‘up to here’, but because it is my way of life and for everything I like (motorcycles ), I pushed forward. When you get older and see things differently is when you go down that path little by little”, he points out.

But this situation has not prevented him from continuing to think that “everything is possible” in his career. “I have the illusion of being MotoGP world champion, I dream about it every day, it’s what I work for and sacrifice myself. If I didn’t believe in it, I would stay at home and be much calmer,” he underlines.

In addition, the two-time world champion does not hide the fact that “when things work out it is very easy to make an effort because you do everything with joy, as my brother once said.” “But when things go wrong it’s screwed up, it’s more difficult to get up early and go out on a bike, but that’s when you see that you want to turn situations around,” he confesses.

“I like it a lot, I’ve been through very difficult times in my career, they’ve had to drag me along, but I’ve always gone over the limit. I insist, I insist and I insist, I hit a wall five times, but in the end it falls” adds Alex Marquez.

Finally, the Ducati rider is scoring at a good level on the back of a Gresini Racing Desmosedici. “I feel liberated, for many reasons, there is not one in particular. The results are important, but today I am at peace with myself,” he says.
