Alex García and the men’s team open the Spanish medal table in the Mountain and Trail Running World Championships

MADRID, 4 Nov. (EUROPA PRESS) –

Alex García and the men’s team were in charge this Friday of releasing the medal table of the Spanish team present at the Mountain and Trail Running World Championships that are being held in Chiang Mai (Thailand), with two bronze medals in the category of Uphill.

According to the RFEA, García scored at a high level in his test, marked by the absence at the last minute of the athletes from Uganda where he was only surpassed by the Kenyans Patrick Kipngeno and Philemon Kiriago, who prevailed with authority.

The Spaniard knew how to manage the route very well and arrived with enough strength to squeeze in with two and a half kilometers to go and overtake his rivals on the climb and achieve an advantage that gave him the bronze with a time of 49:03, plus two minutes from the winner.

In addition, the joy was double as the performances of Miquel Corbera (13th), Oriol Cardona (21st) and Guillermo Albert (36th) allowed Spain to finish third in teams behind Italy and Switzerland. In the women’s category, meanwhile, the best was the Basque Onditz Iturbe, ranked fifth, with Spain finishing seventh by teams.
