Fulham’s Serbian striker, Aleksandar Mitrovic, has been banned for eight games for his expulsion against Manchester United and his subsequent push against the match official, but the English Association (FA) has already warned of its intention to appeal, considering it insufficient.
The 28-year-old international was sent off for a straight red during the match, corresponding to the English Cup, after pushing referee Chris Kavanagh. The attacker was punished with three games for the expulsion, another three for violent behavior towards the referee and two more for using “improper, abusive, insulting and threatening” language.
Mitrovic, his team’s top scorer in the Premier League with eleven goals, has already had one game and will now have to miss the remaining seven, while his coach, Marco Silva, was suspended for two games.
In any case, the FA indicated that it plans to appeal the punishments of both. “We take note of the decision of the independent regulatory commission to sanction Aleksandar Mitrovic and Marco Silva. Our current intention is to appeal both sanctions, however we will wait for the written reasons before confirming our final position,” he underlined.
