Former cyclist Alejandro Valverde and former basketball player Laia Palau will be two of the winners at the V Sports Values Gala delivered by the newspaper Sport on December 15 at the headquarters of the Spanish Olympic Committee (COE).
“The athletes Alejandro Valverde and Laia Palau will receive their award accompanied by the main sports authorities in the country, such as the president of the COE, Alejandro Blanco, the deputy sports minister of the Community of Madrid, Alberto Tomé, and the general director of the Superior Council of Sports, Albert Soler”, announced the organization.
According to the jury, Alejandro Valverde has been deserving of this recognition by announcing his retirement at the age of 42 after two decades as a professional and having achieved a total of 133 victories, including 12 stages in a Tour of Spain and 12 stages in the Spanish round.
For her part, Laia Palau earned the award by possessing an extraordinary track record, with 33 titles at club level and a total of 13 medals with the national team, including three golds in the European Championships, one World silver and another silver. at the Rio 2016 Olympic Games.
In this fifth edition, the young skater Naia Laso (VALUES PROJECTION AWARD), Real Madrid CF (VALUES INTERNATIONAL AWARD), the United States artistic swimming coach Andrea Fuentes (VALUES EXTRAORDINARY AWARD) or the Ukrainian soccer player Yanha Malakhova will be awarded.
