BARCELONA, 25 MAR. (EUROPA PRESS) –
The president of the Spanish Olympic Committee (COE), Alejandro Blanco, affirmed this Friday in Barcelona that if all the institutions involved work “together” the Barcelona-Pyrenees candidacy for the 2030 Winter Olympics has “every chance of winning” .
“I have been talking for a long time with those responsible for the three parties (ERC, Junts and PSC) and they all want the Games. We have overcome the difficulties and when we take the step, next week, this candidacy will be unstoppable”, he pointed out in a conference organized by the Rafael Campalans Foundation in Barcelona.
Since last December, the technical commission, in which there are three members from the Government of Catalonia, three from the Government of Aragon and three from the COE, has met up to five times to prepare the study of the technical part of this candidacy.
“If we are able, in a moment of confusion and confrontation, to have a common idea and all work in favor of that idea, traveling the common path, then we have won the candidacy. From there, whatever the moment, the Pyrenees will have the Olympic Games”, assured the president of the COE.
In Blanco’s opinion, having managed to reach this “meeting point is already the first success”. “Now we have to work together to reach the final success. I am not worried about our rivals, but if we are capable of presenting our candidacy unanimously, not in disagreement. The basis of the success of the candidacy is not snow or ice, but the respect and dialogue,” he added.
Finally, the president of the COE has made it clear that the International Olympic Committee (IOC) is very aware of this candidacy. “Before the international Olympic movement we have to present things unanimously. This is a very serious project. We have to go united, together. If we are, we think and we work together, we have every chance of winning, but we depend on ourselves and on that the IOC, which looks at us day by day, is certain that we will have great Games,” he said.
