The Spanish, in his grayest match in these NextGen Finals, gave up his first set
MADRID, 11 Nov. (EUROPA PRESS) –
The Spanish tennis player Carlos Alcaraz has won this Thursday the Argentine Juan Manuel Cerundolo (4-0, 4-1, 2-3 and 4-3) in the last match of Group A of the ‘NextGen Finals’ of the ATP, and does ‘full’ of triumphs before playing a semifinals for which he was already qualified.
Alcaraz, the first seed of the tournament and the first player to win a ticket to the semifinals, was facing a final match in the group stage against the Argentine and fifth seed Juan Manuel Cerundolo, who had already been eliminated.
Still, they both provided a good game. Alcaraz was somewhat gray and, despite playing worse than against Nakashima and Rune, he started the match with two sets in his favor, the first of them blank. Cerundolo reacted, yes, and took the third set by 2-3, making good the third and last set ball that he had in his favor.
It is the first set against Alcaraz in this tournament that brings together the best Under-21 tennis players in the ATP, but he knew how to rebuild quickly. He brought out his best tennis, again, and imposed his strength from the back of the court.
With a ‘tie break’ that the Spaniard took 7-3, the match closed with emotion and with a physical display and once again overwhelming power from Alcaraz, who gave Cerundolo no option in that sudden death that allowed the Murcian close the phase with 3 wins. The best way to face the semifinal this Friday.
