Alcaraz will not play the Australian Open due to injury

The Spanish, number one in the world, reports an injury in the final stretch of his preseason

MADRID, 6 Ene. (EUROPA PRESS) –

The Spanish tennis player Carlos Alcaraz announced this Friday that he will not be in the imminent Australian Open due to an injury suffered these days of preseason, when he reached the first ‘Grand Slam’ of 2023 as the number one favorite.

The Murcian, who finished 2022 at the top of the ATP ranking at the age of 19, reported the latest on his official Twitter account. “When I was in my best moment of the pre-season, I injured myself in a fortuitous and forced gesture while training, this time in the semimembranosus muscle of my right leg. I had worked a lot to reach my best level in Australia,” he wrote.

“Unfortunately I won’t be able to play either the Care A2+ Kooyong or the Australian Open. It’s a hard time, but I have to be optimistic, recover and look ahead,” added Alcaraz who was going to start the course this week at the exhibition tournament to later go from January 16 to Melbourne in search of his second ‘big’.

Juan Carlos Ferrero’s pupil already missed the final big dish of 2022, ATP Finals and Davis Cup, due to an abdominal injury at the Masters 1,000 in Paris. All in all, Alcaraz worked the preseason to become the world number one and last champion of the ‘Grand Slam’ in Australia with his historic title last year in New York, but again an injury stands in the way of his promising .
