Alcaraz starts the ‘ATP NextGen Finals’ against Rune

MADRID, 9 Nov. (EUROPA PRESS) –

The Spanish tennis player Carlos Alcaraz has surpassed the Danish Holger Rune (4-3[6]), 4-2 and 4-0) in his debut, this Tuesday, in the finals of the ‘NextGen’ of the ATP with a notable superiority at stake over his rival to consolidate the role of favorite he had on the table.

Alcaraz, in his first ‘ATP NextGen Finals’ –competition that brings together the best U21 tennis players of the moment–, started with strength against a Rune that he was defeating and, from less to more, the Spanish obtained his first victory in Group A of the competition.

The Murcian, number 32 in the world at 18 years old, is the first seed of the tournament and in his premiere he took that pressure off with a great tennis, like the one he showed at the 1,000 Masters in Paris-Bercy to reach the knockout stages.

For his part, Rune, world number 109, was deflated after forcing the ‘tie break’ in the first round. In this tournament the matches are to five sets but each sleeve is reduced and closes when the first player reaches his fourth game, not the sixth.

As soon as Alcaraz took out a more aggressive tennis, more similar to the one he is already beginning to show on the professional circuit, he took the second set more easily and closed the third and final set with a 4-0 in his favor.
