Alcaraz starts his title defense well in Buenos Aires

Triumph of the Murcian 6-2 and 7-5 against the local Ugo Carabelli

MADRID, 16 Feb. (EUROPA PRESS) –

The Spanish tennis player Carlos Alcaraz entered this Thursday – early in the morning in Spain – to the quarterfinals of the Buenos Aires (Argentina) tournament, in the ATP 250 category and which is played on clay, thanks to his 6-2 victory and 7-5 against local player Camilo Ugo Carabelli.

At the facilities of the Buenos Aires Lawn Tennis Club, Alcaraz thus returned to official activity after his elimination in the quarterfinals of the last Australian Open, when he was defeated by the German Alexander Zverev (6-1, 6-3, [2]6-7 y 6-4).

This time the Murcian's opponent was of much lower reputation than Zverev. Located in 134th place in the world ranking, Ugo Carabelli at least had the favor of the stands, which had an effect with two serves lost by Alcaraz as soon as the match began.

But from 1-2 onwards, Alcaraz stepped on the accelerator with varied shots, winning five games in a row and hardly suffering with his service turns. However, at the beginning of the second set Ugo Carabelli broke again and even consolidated the lead (0-2).

The Buenos Aires tennis player seemed to have greater integrity, who pressed in the third game (1-2) and fought hard in the next, where his rival achieved the 'break' on the seventh opportunity. The El Palmar player then turned the score around and immediately broke into a blank (4-2).

Once again Alcaraz won the seventh game blankly (5-2), although his opponent then pulled out all stops to save a first match point and even break serve (5-4). The Murcian wasted another ball to win in the tenth inning and, in addition, found himself down 0-40 in the eleventh.

At that moment El Palmar resorted to his emergency repertoire, raised the three break options against him (6-5) and in the subsequent game he closed his victory in a blank, after one hour and 44 minutes. In the quarterfinals he will face the Italian Andrea Vavassori, the executioner of the Serbian Laslo Djere by 6-4 and 7-5 in an hour and a half.
