Alcaraz overwhelms Kokkinakis at his premiere in Indian Wells and Badosa lowers Párrizas

Paula Badosa takes the fratricidal duel against Nuria Párrizas

MADRID, 12 Mar. (EUROPA PRESS) –

The Spanish tennis player Carlos Alcaraz has surpassed his debut in the Indian Wells tournament (United States), the first Masters 1,000 of the season, with flying colors, after beating the Australian Thanasi Kokkinakis (6-3, 6-3), while Paula Badosa It has also opened with victory in the fratricidal duel with Nuria Párrizas (6-2, 7-5).

The 19-year-old from Murcia and current number two in the world, barely needed an hour and 16 minutes of play to eliminate the oceanic player and improve his record from the beginning of the year to 9-1, all in a contest where last year he signed a semifinal in his debut before lifting the Miami and Madrid Masters 1,000 titles.

Alcaraz started the game defending his serve with four points in a row, before breaking his opponent’s serve and moving up 3-0. That solitary break would be enough for him to win the set, in which he won 20 of the 21 points he played with the serve.

A ‘break’ in the third game put the second set on track, which ended the rest on his third match point after signing 21 winners and only 14 unforced errors. With this came his 99th victory on the circuit, before looking for number 100 in the next round of the Californian tournament against the Dutch Tallon Griekspoor, who beat the Argentine Guido Pella (7-6(3), 7-6(4). )).

In the women’s draw, Paula Badosa remained the only Spanish representative in Indian Wells after eliminating her compatriot Nuria Párrizas (6-2, 7-5), a result that allows her to celebrate a victory two months after the last one.

The Catalan, champion in the Californian desert in 2021, managed to break the Granada’s serve in the third game, after missing her first three break balls, and sealed her victory in the set, also breaking in the seventh.

With the second set came a long exchange of breaks that favored Begur, who after signing four breaks -for three of her opponent- managed to end the clash after one hour and 38 minutes of play.

Her next rival will be her partner in the doubles category, the Belarusian Elena Rybakina, tenth favorite, current Wimbledon champion and finalist this year at the Australian Open, who beat the American Sofia Kenin (7-6 (6), 7- 6(5)).
