Alcaraz: “I’ve been a little finer in my blows”

“Davidovich has told me that he expects a rematch soon, and soon it will be”

BARCELONA, 21 Abr. (EUROPA PRESS) –

The Spanish tennis player Carlos Alcaraz assured after beating Alejandro Davidovich (7-6 and 6-4) in the quarterfinals of the Barcelona Open Banc Sabadell-70 Conde de Godó Trophy that he had to put on his overalls again and fight with each shot for a victory that gives him confidence.

“Today I have been a little finer in blows than yesterday, but I have also had to put on the work overalls and do long rallies. Davidovich is very solid. Perhaps today I have risked something more, I felt a little more confident than yesterday “He said at a press conference.

And that, as against Roberto Bautista in the round of 16, both had to deal with the wind. “Today the conditions were complicated, too. We both played a great game, the difference was in small details, I took advantage of them and that was the key to the game,” he acknowledged.

He was gaining confidence in his game, especially when he was able to break Davidovich’s serve in the second set, for the first time in the second set. “It has been important to be a little above, the
feeling of being able to do a ‘break’ and having that margin has been good for me in terms of confidence”, he was honest.

“This type of match, playing against Roberto or Álex, who are great players, and taking them forward helps me gain confidence and pace for what is to come. Despite the conditions, solving the problems that have arisen and adapting to them has helped me makes him a better player. Looking ahead to the tournaments that come, they are positive things”, he commented.

“In these last two games I have suffered and tomorrow it will be another great battle. I don’t think I have more options to win the title with Sinner out, because the players present are great and they can beat me perfectly,” he added.

In an unprecedented duel, Alcaraz prevailed over his friend Davidovich, but there will be consequences of what has been seen. “We are great friends off the track, we have trained many times. He has told me that he expects a rematch soon, and it will be soon. We will see each other many times on the circuit and he will beat me, I will surely beat him too,” he predicted.

Beyond this match, he believes that the key to tennis is to “enjoy the moment.” “The difference between the good players and the best ones is that a lot of people wait for the opponent’s failure and don’t want to play that decisive moment, and the best ones go for it,” he said.

“I try not to think about that pressure (of having to be the best and the future of tennis) or read all the news that comes out about me. I try to enjoy tennis, which I have always liked and it is my passion. I don’t want to have the pressure to be the one that others want me to be. Live now, enjoy playing tennis and I don’t care about everything else,” he was honest.
