Alcaraz: “It’s an honor to be number one”

VALENCIA, 13 Sep. (EUROPA PRESS) –

The Spanish tennis player Carlos Alcaraz, number one in the world after winning the US Open this Sunday in New York, the fourth and last ‘Grand Slam’ of the season, acknowledged that he is “proud to be number one” and that for him it is “a dream” and that he will “defend” the Davis Cup in Valencia, where he will represent Spain with “enormous pride”.

“It’s a pride to be number one, it’s a dream and I’m very happy about it. Obviously there’s a lot of work behind it, it’s not a bed of roses, and I’m super happy about it,” said Alcaraz upon arrival in Valencia to join the Spanish team that will play the Davis Cup against Serbia, Canada and South Korea from September 14 to 18.

For Alcaraz “it is a great joy to know that so many people” wish him the best. “That so many people are behind me, supporting me in every game, at every moment, which is a huge pride, being able to represent Spain everywhere and obviously Murcia,” he said.

Now, he arrives in Valencia to contribute his “grain of sand to the team”, which he will share with Roberto Bautista, Albert Ramos, Pedro Martínez and Marcel Granollers. Despite the fact that Pablo Carreño and Alejandro Davidovich were summoned in the first place, in the end they were absent. He still doesn’t know when he will debut and if it will be against Serbia, that he won’t have Djokovic. “I have just arrived, I have to settle in with the team, fully settle in and we’ll see”, he pointed out.
