Alcaraz: “I want to beat Djokovic's records”

MADRID, 20 Ene. (EUROPA PRESS) –

The Spanish tennis player Carlos Alcaraz has downplayed the fact that he has surpassed the Swede Björn Borg as the youngest player in the Open Era to reach the round of 16 in seven consecutive 'Grand Slams' with his victory against the Chinese Juncheng Shang in the Australian Open, and has assured that the records he wants to “beat” are those of Serbian Novak Djokovic.

“I try not to give it importance because the records I want to break are the ones Novak is breaking. These are the goals I have set for my career. Taking them away from legends like Borg is always a good thing, but if you give them too much value, it can play into against you,” he said at a press conference.

Regarding his feelings, the Murcian acknowledged that he feels “good.” “I probably give myself a 7-8 out of 10. That's a high grade. But that's how I feel, I don't know. I think I'm getting better every day, every game I feel better and better,” he said.

“I'm moving well, I'm hitting the ball hard and, of course, I'm getting used to this court. I haven't played much on this court – the Rod Laver Arena -. I get good things from here and from the level I'm at. playing. I hope it gets better and better,” he concluded.
