Alcaraz does not fail against Marozsan and advances to the Indian Wells quarterfinals

MADRID, 12 Mar. (EUROPA PRESS) –

The Spanish tennis player Carlos Alcaraz has advanced to the quarterfinals in the Indian Wells tournament (United States), the first ATP Masters 1,000 of the season, after beating the Hungarian Fabian Marozsan this Tuesday with ease (6-3, 6-3) , a result that allows him to remain firm in his defense of the title.

In the second match between the two, the one from El Palmar was able to make up for the defeat suffered against the Magyar in the Masters 1,000 in Rome last year in a match with which he continues to gain confidence in the Californian desert, where the surprising elimination of the Serbian Novak Djokovic this morning has left the outlook clearer.

Thus, he claimed 82% of points won with the first serve, in addition to surviving the two break options available to his rival, to leave the Hungarian without any option, unable to break the service of the number two in the world. All to add his 50th victory in Masters 1,000 category tournaments.

Solid with his serve and combative from the back of the court, the Murcian wasted a break ball as soon as the duel began on the main court of the Indian Wells Tennis Garden. Even so, he neither suffered on serve nor was alarmed, waiting for an opportunity that came in the seventh game.

It was then that the world number two managed to break his opponent’s serve, something he repeated in the ninth to close, with four consecutive games, the first set in less than three-quarters of an hour.

The two contenders showed their firmness on serve at the beginning of the second set, but Alcaraz dealt the decisive blow to Marozsan with 3-2 in the light and to the rest; He went ahead 0-40 and, on his third break opportunity, he managed to materialize it.

He then confirmed it with his serve after fending off two break points from the Hungarian. In the ninth game, on the first of his three match points, he was in charge of ending the contest in an hour and a quarter.

Now, the Murcian, who for the third time in his career advanced to the Indian Wells quarterfinals (2022, 2023 and 2024), is already waiting for the winner of the round of 16 duel that will face the German Alexander Zverev, sixth seed in the North American tournament, and to the Australian Alex de Minaur, tenth seed.
