MADRID, 15 Ago. (EUROPA PRESS) –
The Spanish team that will play the group stage of the Davis Cup Finals, from September 13 to 18 in Valencia, will be made up of tennis players Carlos Alcaraz, Roberto Bautista, Pablo Carreño, Alejandro Davidovich and Marcel Granollers.
The captain of the Spanish team, Sergi Bruguera, announced on Monday the ‘five’ that will face Serbia, Canada and South Korea in search of one of the two places that will give access to the knockout stages of the final phase.
Without the limping Rafa Nadal, it will be the young Carlos Alcaraz –current number 4 in the ATP ranking– who will lead Spain in this quest to reach the final phase, along with Pablo Carreño, 14th in the world, who has just to win his first Masters 1,000 in Canada.
Roberto Bautista (19) would also be another individual asset while Alejandro Davidovich could be Marcel Granollers’ new partner in the doubles, with the Catalan currently number 6 in the world ranking of the specialty.
Spain will debut against Serbia on Wednesday 14 September, will play their second tie against Canada on Friday 16 and will close the group stage on Sunday 18 against South Korea, always starting at 4:00 p.m., at La Fonteta and on a hard court under the ceiling.
On the other hand, Group A will be played in Bologna with Croatia, Italy, Argentina and Sweden. Group C will be decided in Hamburg with France, Germany, Belgium and Australia. And Group D will be played in Glasgow with the United States, Great Britain, Kazakhstan and the Netherlands.
The first two classified from each venue will access the ‘Final 8’ in Malaga, from November 21 to 27. In the event of qualifying as first in the group, Spain would play the quarterfinals against the second-placed team from Group A. If they were second in the group, they would play against the winner of Group C.
