Alcaraz avoids Djokovic until the final at the US Open and falls on Sinner’s side

MADRID, 22 Ago. (EUROPA PRESS) –

Spanish tennis player Carlos Alcaraz will make his debut at the US Open, the fourth and final Grand Slam of the season, against a qualifying opponent, and would face Italian Jannik Sinner in a hypothetical semi-final, according to the draw held on Thursday.

The Murcia native, world number three and seeking the fifth Grand Slam of his career and third of the year at Flushing Meadows, will face a qualifier in the first round before facing either Dutchman Botic van de Zandschulp or Canadian Denis Shapovalov in the second round.

Meanwhile, the British Jack Draper could be his opponent in the third round; the American Sebastian Korda in the round of 16; and the Polish Hubert Hurkacz in the quarterfinals. In the semifinals, he would face Sinner, who has been at the center of controversy these days after it was revealed that he had tested positive twice for clostebol in anti-doping controls during March 2024, during the Indian Wells Masters 1000.

If he were to beat the number two in the ATP rankings, he would face Serbian Novak Djokovic, the reigning champion of the North American Grand Slam, in a hypothetical final.
