Alcaraz and Carreño, heads and tails in Vienna, Bolsava ahead in Italy

MADRID, 25 Oct. (EUROPA PRESS) –

The Spanish tennis players Carlos Alcaraz and Pablo Carreño had mixed luck this Monday in their debuts in the Vienna tournament, scoring for the ATP and which is played on indoor hard court, with the Murcian surpassing the first round and the Asturian falling, while in the WTA event in Courmayeur (Italy), on the same surface, Aliona Bolsava got into the second round.

The 18-year-old Murcian player celebrated Sergio Bruguera’s call to play in the Davis Cup Finals next month with a solid victory over Englishman Dan Evans in straight sets 6-4, 6-3.

Despite the score, the El Palmar had to work the pass in two quite disputed sets. In the first, he did not take advantage of his advantages thanks to two ‘breaks’, which were replicated by an Evans who came to have a dangerous 15-40 with 4-4. Alcaraz lifted the situation and in the next game he broke again to take the set.

However, in the second set it was the British tennis player, 24th in the ATP world ranking, who began dominating with an early break. Evans went 3-1 up, but that’s where the Murcian reaction came to win the next five games without losing points and get into a second round where he will have an attractive generational duel against former world number one Andy Murray.

On the other hand, a Pablo Carreño, a finalist on the indoor hard court of Metz (France) a few weeks ago, could not accompany him to the round of 16 in the Austrian capital, but who could not with the Georgian Nikoloz Basilashvili, recent finalist of the Masters 1,000 of Indian Wells (United States).

The Asturian fought for more than two and a half hours with his rival, who won 7-5, 4-6, 6-3 in a game where he had four breaking balls in the first set, lost when he served to play the ‘ tie-break ‘and when he had not yielded any loophole to Basilashivili. The one from Gijón took the second set lifting a 0-40 with 5-4 in his favor, but in the third and final set he could not with the Georgian’s serve.

On the other hand, at the WTA event in Courmayeur (Italy), which is also held on indoor hard courts, the Spanish Aliona Bolsava surpassed her debut with a hard-fought victory over Su-Wei Hsieh, from China Taipei, 6-1, 6 -7 (2), 6-4.

The Girona tennis player had 5-3 and served in the second, but the Asian saved the moment and reached a third set where she came out favored from the start with five breaks, three in her favor, asserting the last of them and saving two balls from ‘ break ‘with 5-4 before closing his victory.
