The Spanish climber Alberto Ginés, current Olympic champion, and his partner, the Slovenian Luka Potocar, have been proclaimed champions of the first edition of the Red Bull Dual Ascent, in which the participants have had to climb the spectacular Verzasca dam (Switzerland) .
The Extremaduran and the Slovenian, absolute winner of the World Cup, completed the climb in the improvised Swiss climbing wall in a time of 51:27, beating the Slovenian climbing champion Domen Skofic and the former bouldering world champion Jernej Kruder (53:41 ).
A last-minute mistake by Kruder made it possible for the Spaniard and his partner to win the first multi-pitching competition on artificial routes in the world, all after two days of qualifying over 180 meters of concrete, more than 280 movements and about 400 holds.
“We had to fight much harder than in qualifying. Skofic and Kruder started very strong, leading practically the entire climb until the last section. We thought they were going to win and suddenly we heard Kruder scream because they had fallen. taken advantage of to squeeze and overtake them”, indicated Ginés.
Potocar, 20, acknowledged that “until the last stretch” they thought “there was no way” they could “win.” “We were exhausted, reaching our limit. When I heard Kruder fall, I realized that there was still a chance to win. In the end, Alberto was fast and we did it,” he explained.
In the ‘Small Final’, the Italian duo formed by Stefano Ghisolfi and Marcello Bombardi won third place after beating the duo formed by the world bouldering champion, the Swiss Petra Klingler, and the French Louna Ladevant.
