Alberto Ginés reappears in the European ready to “give a cane”

The Olympic champion leads, together with Erik Noya, the list of 10 summoned from Spain

The Spanish climber and Olympic champion Alberto Ginés will be the great asset of the team in the European Climbing Championships that start this Thursday in Munich (Germany), within the European Championships 2022, and he assures that after the injury already overcome he wants to “give a cane” at the famous Königsplatz.

“I feel quite cool climbing again after the injury, we are going to hit the European Championship,” said the climber in statements provided by the Spanish Federation of Mountain and Climbing Sports (FEDME).

Alberto Ginés, Olympic gold medalist at Tokyo 2020, reappears at this European Championship in Munich after the injury suffered at the World Cup event in Salt Lake City (United States) and leads the list along with Erik Noya, who also aspires to win a medal .

The presence of Ginés, brand new Olympic champion after the premiere of climbing as an Olympic sport in Tokyo, is the great novelty and at the same time the group’s asset despite living through a complicated season in terms of discomfort and injuries.

However, despite not having a competitive rhythm, he faces this European Championship in full physical condition. “His goal is focused on finishing the season in the best possible way to start 2023 in top form with the aim of qualifying for the 2024 Paris Olympics,” the federation revealed.


Among the ten Spanish climbers who will be in Munich, the presence of Erik Noya, specialist in speed and second in the world ranking with 2,245 points, fourth in the World Cup with 3,855 points and leader in the European Cup of his discipline.

Eight more athletes will make up the Spanish team in these European Championships, with Mikel Linacisoro (block), Eneko Carretero (block), Alejandro Crespo (block), Alejandro Rivas (speed), Aida Torres (block), Rebeca Pérez (block), María Laborda (speed) and Carla Martínez (speed).

In Munich the 300 best climbers and climbers of the continent will participate. A competition that will distribute 24 medals in four modalities: block, difficulty, speed and combined.
