Alberto Ginés, on Paris 2024: “If I don't change anything in three years, I'm doing something wrong”

The climbing champion in Tokyo 2020 has spoken with Europa Press about his future

MADRID, 25 Dic. (EUROPA PRESS) –

The Spanish climber Alberto Ginés has indicated that “something” would be “doing wrong” in his preparation if “nothing” changes in the three years of difference between the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games, held in 2021 due to the pandemic and where he was champion, and the next Paris 2024 Games.

“I guess if I don't change anything in three years, I'm doing something wrong. But I would say nothing outside of the normal growth of a person. I was also 18 years old and now I'm 21. I don't know, I've grown as a person, I've I have also gone through many things that have made me mature a little more, evolve. But I would say that my life in general is very similar,” Ginés said during an interview with Europa Press.

In this context, the athlete from Cáceres has described as “a little complicated” the period of time that has passed since he won that gold in the capital of Japan until now. “The first year I had to learn to deal with the new pressure of being an Olympic champion, then I got injured and this year the winter has been very bad,” he admitted in this regard.

“In general, the whole season has been quite bad, very irregular, I had very good results and then I had four very bad results. In the end I have managed to recover sensations and get back to my best form, so we will try to continue on that path of work and everything will go very well next year,” predicted Ginés, who recently presented an award during the 18th Gala of the Spanish Olympic Committee (COE).

“It is true that I feel or know that there are many people, especially those who do not follow climbing much, who will say: 'If Alberto won in 2021, then in 2024 he will also win.' And it is possible, but the format has changed “There are new people, I have changed and everything has changed, there are many years of difference. I hope I win another gold, but nothing is guaranteed,” he warned.

Finally, he has shown curiosity to know what the Paris Games will be like, once the covid pandemic is over. “My normality is the Tokyo games, so I have no idea. If I manage to go, with all the public and such, to see how it affects. I think everything will add up, feeling the affection of the people has to be very cool,” Ginés has concluded.
