Alavés remains in a battle with Getafe with nothing at stake

Bordalás: “The referee said ‘I’m sick and tired of putting up with this team'”

MADRID, 18 May. (EUROPA PRESS) –

Deportivo Alavés beat Getafe (1-0) this Saturday in the only match of matchday 37 of LaLiga EA Sports outside of the unified schedule on Sunday, a priori with nothing at stake but far from seeming so due to the battle that remained on the pitch from Mendizorrotza.

A goal from Carlos Vicente in the first quarter of an hour gave the victory to the Basques, who celebrated a permanence already tied in advance with their fans. The recently renewed Luis García Plaza dedicated one more victory to an Alavés team that surpassed the Madrid team in the table, tenth with the last day remaining.

The match was marked by interruptions, fouls, yellow cards, up to 13 including the second one that led to the expulsion of Ilaix Moriba in the 95th minute. There was also a “Greenwood die” from the stands who stopped the game to send the dissuasive message over the public address system and José Bordalás who ended up very angry with the referee.

“The referee has said ‘I’m sick and tired of putting up with this team,” he said in statements to Dazn, about what he heard from Figueroa Vázquez, asking for sanctions for the referees the same as there are for players and coaches.

Vicente’s goal increased with the suspense of the VAR, even more clearly the annulment of Giuliano Simeone shortly after. Kike García had another one and, in addition to the water, it had been raining cards in Vitoria for a while. Bordalás made two changes even before the break, Djené and Latasa came on, and Getefe grew after the break.

Alderete and Greenwood were close to a tie, but the Basque team reacted to defend their ground in a final effort that favored the locals. The ‘Geta’ left unhinged, with their fourth consecutive defeat and that clash with the referee, although Bordalás also faced the bench of a partying Alavés, with Owono taking the rhythm of the drum in the Mendizorrotza stands.
